How do I connect ChatGPT?
- In ChatGPT, go to Plugins, select +, then Add custom MCP server.
- Name it Proofsource and paste the server URL https://app.proofsource.co/v1/mcp.
- Set Authentication to OAuth, accept the warning, and select Create as a plugin.
- Install it from your personal plugins, sign in to Proofsource and select Allow. If you belong to more than one workspace, pick one first.
- In a chat, type @ and pick Proofsource, then ask.
Already signed in to Proofsource in the same browser? The sign-in step is one click on Allow. Then ask a question such as "How often does ChatGPT mention my brand?" and ChatGPT calls Proofsource for the answer.
How do I connect Claude?
- In Claude, go to Customize, then Connectors, and select Add custom connector.
- Paste the server URL https://app.proofsource.co/v1/mcp. Under Authentication, pick Sign in when needed, not No sign-in, then select Add.
- When Claude asks, select Connect, sign in to Proofsource and select Allow. If you belong to more than one workspace, pick one first.
- In a chat, turn Proofsource on under +, then Connectors, then ask.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds it once under Organization settings, then Connectors, then Add, then Custom, with Authentication set to Sign in when needed. Each member then signs in when Claude asks. A connector added on claude.ai also works in the Claude desktop app.
How do I connect Claude Code, Cursor or the OpenAI API?
| Client | Setup | Sign-in |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | Run claude mcp add --transport http proofsource https://app.proofsource.co/v1/mcp, then type /mcp in Claude Code and pick Proofsource. | A browser window, the same as ChatGPT and Claude |
| Cursor | Add proofsource with the url https://app.proofsource.co/v1/mcp under mcpServers in ~/.cursor/mcp.json, then open Settings, then MCP, and click Connect. | A browser window, the same as ChatGPT and Claude |
| OpenAI API | Pass a tool of type mcp with server_url https://app.proofsource.co/v1/mcp in a Responses API call. | An API key from Settings, then API Keys, sent as a bearer token |
An API key still works in Claude Code, Cursor and Claude Desktop too. The exact snippet for each client is in the app under Settings, then AI agents, and keys are covered in Export and API.
What happens when I sign in?
| You are | What you do | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Signed in to Proofsource in this browser | Click Allow. Nothing to type. | Every brand in your workspace, with your role |
| A Proofsource user, signed out | Sign in with an email code or Google, then click Allow. | Every brand in your workspace, with your role |
| New, with a work email | Enter your work email and the 6-digit code we send. | A new account and the free trial: add a brand and get 2 free scans |
| New, with a personal email such as Gmail | Enter your email and the code. | An account and the help tools. Scans start once you sign in with a work email. |
If you belong to more than one workspace, you pick one on the Allow screen, and the connection reads that workspace only. The Allow screen lists what the app may do: read your brands, answers and competitors, and make changes such as adding a question. Before you sign in, the app can show a sample report for Tesla built from our own data, and nothing about your brand.
What can ChatGPT or Claude do with Proofsource?
| Tool | What it returns or does |
|---|---|
| see_example | A sample visibility card for Tesla, without signing in. |
| list_brands | Your tracked brands. |
| get_visibility | How often AI answers mention you, by engine, with a card you can open in full. |
| get_competitors | Who AI answers name instead of you, and how often. |
| get_citations | The pages AI answers cite, and where your domains rank. |
| get_changes | What moved: visibility trend, answer churn, competitor site changes, new sources. |
| list_topics | Topics and the buyer questions tracked under each. |
| list_fix_opportunities | What keeps engines from naming you, and the fix. |
| get_fix_verification | Each shipped fix's before and after, and whether it worked. |
| get_scan_status | Whether a scan is running and how far along it is. |
| get_report_link | A link to your shareable report. |
| add_brand | Add a brand from its website and start its scans. Makes a change. |
| create_prompt | Track a new buyer question. Makes a change. |
| mark_fix_shipped | Date a fix so it can be verified. Makes a change. |
The assistant picks the tool from your question, so you never name one. Read tools serve answers we already collected and start no new scan. ChatGPT and Claude ask you before a tool makes a change.
How do I disconnect?
- In Proofsource, open Settings, then AI agents.
- Under Connected apps, find the app, the person who connected it and when it was last used.
- Click Revoke. The app's next call is refused, and it asks to sign in again before it can read anything.
Removing Proofsource in ChatGPT's or Claude's own settings stops it on their side. Revoking in Proofsource cuts access off on ours, for any member's connection. Removing a member from the workspace ends their connections too.
What if it does not work?
- Proofsource is not in the plugin or connector directory: add it as a custom MCP server or custom connector with https://app.proofsource.co/v1/mcp, as described above.
- The sign-in window does not open, or closes with no result: allow pop-ups for chatgpt.com or claude.ai, then click Connect again.
- It says scans need a work email: you signed in with a personal address. Disconnect, connect again and sign in with your work email.
- It shows the wrong workspace: revoke the connection, connect again and pick the other workspace on the Allow screen.
- It asks you to sign in again: the connection was revoked, or your membership changed. Sign in once more and click Allow.
